France

Trip to France

Long time ago, we have been thinking a place to go when the classes are gone.
We decided to go to France for six days, to visit the monuments, museums, amusement park...
We arrived at the airport in Paris at lunchtime. As we were hungry, we went to a coffee shop that was there.
After eating we went to the hotel, we leave our luggage and took a Taxi to go to the amusement park. It was very big and from the moment that we saw it, we knew that we would not give time to get to all the attractions. There was a large pink castle, a great source, many markets and lots of Disney characters walking through the Disneyland Park.
Then we went to the hotel and had dinner there. The food we didn´t like because it had too much butter, by this we started to buy the dinner at a gas station that had near. After ``dinner´´ we went to the hotel where, by surprise, we looked a few killed cockroaches...DISGUSTING!
The second day we decided to dedicate to visit the city after breakfast, because it was the only good food of the hotel. We did a tour bus. They gave us helmets to hear the instructions in Spanish. We saw the arc of Triomphe, the Pantheon, the Obelisk of Luxor, the Arc of Triumph of Carrousel... and many more. Before lunch we went to the Eiffel Tower. After a long time, we could go up, but only  to the second floor, because we were afraid to up more. From above we saw all very small and there was a park with a drawn heart of land. We ate croissants with ham and cheese with chocolate to drink at the Eiffel Tower . We were many time. Then, we went to the Cathedral of Saint Louis des Invalides where a nice man gave us bread to feed the birds. I was the first to try, I really liked the experience and the birds made me a lot of tickling.
In the afternoon, we went for a ride in a boat on the Seine river, where also gave us helmets to hear the information. From the boat, we saw the Louvre Museum. It was very relaxing. We arrived about nine oclock, we had a dinner from the petrol station and we went to sleep.
The third day we spent all the morning in the Walt Disney Studios where all the attractions were based on Disney films and had things like the throne of the Queen of Narnia, the characters of monsters S.A, antique cars... There, we ate a hot dog. We took pictures with characters of Disney like Minnie and Goofy. In the afternoon we saw a parade. The parade was about characters from many films and was very fun.
The next two days we were in Disneyland Park because it was the best of the trip. We use the most of the attractions with the exception of which were for children. There was one in which we wanted to climb, but we believe it broke because we saw people getting off the train... Luckily we dont climb.
The last day we didn´t anything because we had to be at the airport at twelve o´clock. For me this trip was perfect except the hotel and the hotel food... :))

The North Korea literacy rate is 99%. Being one of the highest in the world. But it is because in Notrh Korea citizens are prohibited from talking to foreigners, so those data are taken from the State
  • Low life expectancy
While North Korea has a public health system, the life expectancy index is only 67.3 years.I agricultural systems implemented by the regime, as well as droughts and natural disasters have resulted in famine, all silenced by the regime. Moreover, the regime distributed the food according to the utility and fidelity to this. This leads to between 5 and 6 million people ignored. Some NGO such as  Doctors Without Borders they have decided that they cannot help the country because the regime gets everything they send. Kim Jong Il said in 1996, "to build a society only would be necessary to survive the 30% of the  population ".

Diary of Scoop.it

Diary of Scoop.it

Our teacher told us that we had to choose a country in the world, at the beginning we chose Swaziland (Africa), but their food was very different, strange and difficult to do. We told to Sergio about if we could change our country and he said ``Okay, not problem´´ and finally we decided to choose France (Europe). We chose France because their breakfasts are easy and very delicious. We brought croissants with ham and cheese and jam, fruit, coffee with milk, and milk with Cola Cao.

When we did the breakfast, the teacher told us that we had to create an account on a page which was called Scoop.it and we did it. We needed to find information and news about France and send it to me, the coordinator so that I could put it on the page.
In the class we started with tablets but they worked HORRIBLY! especially our tablet, which was blocked. Sergio proposed to go to the Medusa´s classroom and work there. This idea was better than tablets because the computers were faster and the group could see better what we were doing.
We put all the interesting things that we find on the Internet about France (songs, news, stories, photos...).
Later, Sergio told us that we had to do a small job of our country, for example a video, speak a little bit of everything... We decided to talk about one of the most famous amusement parks of Europe, Disneyland, and put pictures.
On Monday 20th we will present our diary but until Monday we will continue to work on the computers.
At the end, we didn´t do the trip to France, because it wasn´t creative. We made a presentation in which we said some interesting things about France, for example, in France the majority of people live in Paris or in the French Riviera, have a very special kiss (French kiss) ...
We didn't present that day, we went to Medusa the days 21th, 22th, 23th, 24th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31th, 4 th and 5th of May and June until the days 6th and 7th of June because we saw the pesentations of our mates.
At the end we present the day 11th of June.
We were very nervous because we were afraid to make a mistake or they did not  like our presentation, but at the end everything went very well each of us dressed up like a famous french person.

Ana was Spark that is a bulb.
Carla dressed up like a typical French person.
Julia was Marcel Marceau, he was an important mime.
Lorena was Jean-Paul  Gaultier, an important designer.
Anabel was one of the most important women in France and around the world, Marie Curie.

International breakfast

Last friday we did a international breakfast with the social science group . Every group  had to choose a country and bring breakfast typical of this. We chose North Korea ,so we bought rice and meat and bring it to class. It was great but that kind of food for breakfast is  strong. Some groups they did very well, they brought the typical clothing or music, and a very detailed breakfast. In general it was funny because we can see hungry people eat the food very fast and Nestor asking for food by the tables as if it were a beggar.I think that if we had more time we could have done better.

France

French breakfast

We did a very special breakfast. Each of the groups chose a country and brought the typical breakfast of that country. My group, formed by Julia, Lorena, Anabel  Ana and me, chose France. We brought croissants with ham and cheese or with jam and bread with butter. For drink we brought chocolate, milk with Cola Cao and orange juices. Julia and Anabel brought fruit. Ana and Lorena could not eat with us because Ana was in Germany and Loraine was sick.
In France the consumption of croissants, muffins, neapolitan of chocolate, bread raisins or other products of this type, usually reserved for special breakfasts. The typical French breakfast is bread with jam, baguettes with jam and butter. For drink coffee with milk, but also chocolate or tea. And juices or pieces of fruit.

With my breakfast :

I felt very well but some full.

That breakfast was, approximately, about 1410 Kilo-calories.
The French breakfast is known for its high fat content, but for one day nothing happens.I really like this experience, I had fun seeing people dressed of other countries and seeing the food that they had brought, I hope repeat it ... :))

Heart disection

HEART DISECTION

First, we put all the materials on the table and take out the heart og bag. Lorena take a photo of the heart on the tray.

Second, we put the pencils in the vessels: a red pencil in the aorta arterie, an orange pencil in the pulmonary arterie, a yellow pencil in the cave vein and a light orange pencil in the pulmonary vein. then we differenciate the right part and the left part of the heart.
Third, we cut the heart in two, to differenciate the ventricles. After located the ventricles , we put again the pencils into the vessels. And we find the valves.

At the end Anabel washes the tray and the others materials and Ana and Lorena picked up cleaned the table.

PROBLEMS THAT WE HAVE DURING THIS PROJECT:

Anabel and Ana send tweets to many that are experts in biology that can helps us, but none us answer and we have to find a page in internet that could helps us in this project.

The problem with the tablets, the connection was bad and only seven groups had tablets and the others had to wait for them.

Lesli Samuel

This is the page of the Lord who gave us the page where we get all the information about how to dissect a heart. All this happened because Sergio gave us a page of twitter, where there were many twitters of science teachers.

Of all the teachers, we chose four. Only answered Lesli Samuel.
This is the conversation that we had with Lesli Samuel:

Conclusions

Conclusion: It was  well because I  had never  done anything like that, but I
thought that it would be better, I guess that I had very high expectations maybe we
can do better because we weren't not very sure about where we have to cut or what are the aorta, we had it on paper but in practice was differentthank god that day had a stuffy nose from a cold... Carla was not as lucky as me. I just hope the next time Mary give us masks... I think in general the class behavior is good because everybody are concentrated and all had wanted to work , but at the end  some people thought it was not a good idea. We want to
repeat, with a less disgusting body part :)

Conclusion of the group: I think in general the class behavior is good because everybody are concentrated and all had wanted to work. We made a little noise because it was a new experience and we were very excited. I really liked how they worked as a team and as they helped other groups, for example, Dani and Ismael helped us to put pencils and to cut the heart. I think, it was the first time that the class worked so well. I liked to see them so excited but at the end  some people thought it was not a good idea. We want to repeat , with a less disgusting body part.

Diary

Diary of the Heart Dissection

For several weeks we have been talking about the project about the heart dissection and the tablets that the high school is going to buy.
Weeks later, Sergio came to class and gave us the news:  the tablets were already  and able to use them. First we have some problems with the conections and the paswords but finally we can use them.
We had to find a specialist on twitter that help us with the dissection. We find Lesli Samuel who gave us a page with a plan of a dissection.
The next day we show it to Sergio in the tablet and he smile us... :)
The following days we were preparing the plan that we have to show in class. We had some problems because we didn't have enough time so we did by phone.
The presentations began on 7 of March. Aranzazu and I not present because we wanted to see some presentations before.
We present on Friday. We were very nervous, but we did well. At the end Sergio gave us the congratulations because we did it in a program that he liked.
Some people they haven´t present, but there are few groups.
I think that this week (Monday, 11 of March) or the following, will do the dissection...That´s funny!
Finally we did the dissection the last week before the Easter holidays (thursday 21 of March). Everyone brought hearts in bags and left them at the first hour in secretariat.

In the hour of biology (after the breaktime) we went to the lab and sit with people from our group. Mary handed out gloves, trays, scalpels and scissors and told  that we put us our gloves,  take out the heart of the bag and put it in the tray . Then everybody started to dissect following the plan he had written. At the beginning  Carla and I didn't want to touch , but we had to do it , so we turned it and started to put pencils by the aorta, the pulmonary vein... We weren't very sure where it was every one but Ismael Cabrera helped us.

Next , one class of Bachillerato come to saw and helped us with take pictures because our gloves are dirty. A guy took the picture while we were situated the pencils.
When we started to cut the heart was very hard and as much as we tried it we couldn't so Dani  helped us (For this reason the hands that appear in the video are so big). After cutting it in half, we saw the connections and valves.
At the end we were very dizzy by the smell and Carla wanted to not having breakfast...
We collected everything and we threw it in the trash but before throwing the heart Dani
asked us that we leave it to break it with his hands, I think that he had fun.

Heart Dissection

Heart Dissection

- First Step:

Remove the gloves and the scalpel of the bags or boxes. This step will do Carla. Then, we put our gloves.

- Second Step:

We have to remove the heart from the bag. This step will do Aránzazu.

- Third Step:
Put it on the table and indicate with colored pencils: vena cava, pulmonary vein, aorta and pulmonary artery.
To find the aorta you have to find the pulmonary vein because the aorta should be situated a little bit behind it. Next you put the red pencil (aorta) and the blue pencil (pulmonary vein). This step will do Carla.   The two main veins can be found on the backside and come in left and right atria. Then you put the green pencil (vena cava) and the yellow pencil (pulmonary artery). This step will do Aránzazu.

vessels

- Fourth Step:
Use the superior vena cava and pulmonary vein as guides for where to cut. This step will do Carla.

- Fifth Step:
When the heart is open, you can see the inner chambers.

Diary of the lungs project

Materials

To make the lungs is necesary :

 - Scissors

 - Two drinking straws

 - Heat tape

 - Packet of ballons

 -Clear plastic soda bottle

 First Step:

We took the bottle and cut through the bottom. Then we had to clean it on the inside because it had a few of water. We put soap,  water and dry it.

 Second Step:

After washing the bottle, we ironed the cut side for didn't break the balloon, that  we use like a diaphragm.

 Third Step:

After filing, we took the cap and got two straws glued with adhesive tape so
 that they cannot move.

 Fourth Step:

We take two balloons ,we cut the top and we stick them to one end of the
straw with the heat tape.

 Fifth Step:

We take another balloon and we cut it too, then we
put it at the end of the bottle.

Finally we check if it worked...

Problem and Solution

 Problem:

-The balloon that had to be put at the end of the bottle, as a diaphragm, was very difficult to put. The balloons were too small we broke four. ¬¬''

 Solution:

-The solution found was take one of the small balloons and inflate it to make it easier to handle.

Breakfast in class

Carla

First Breakfast

In my first breakfast I ate a ''Cuña'' with a  Tropical juice . This breakfast was very unhealthy because I ate a lot of calories. The only healthy food that I ate was a banana ( My teacher María gave it me). At the beginning I felt very god because I love chocolate but later I felt very bad and tired. The calories that I need intake in the breakfast are 899.64 Kcal.

              420( The ''Cuña'') +200(The Juice)= 620Kcal

That day I took 620 Kcal and is very bad because the most nutrients that were in my breakfast were fats.
In the next breakfast I need intake more calories but not only fats, I need diferents nutrients like fibre.

Second Breakfast

In my second breakfast I ate an orange juice, milk with ''Cola-Cao'' and a sandwich with jam and Philadelphia cheese. This breakfast was very healthy because I ate very good. All the day I felt very good, energetic and animated. The calories that I need intake are 899.64 Kcal but that day I took...

52.2 (The Orange Juice) +115.25 (The Milk with Cola-Cao)+
286,5 (The Bread, The Jam and The Philadelphia Cheese) = 453.95Kcal.

I don´t know  why I only intake 444,25 Kcal because I felt very sat and I couldn´t eat more. If we have brekfast in class again, I try intake all the calories that I need intake in the breakfast, I hope :))
